Call for applications: Education in conflict and post conflict contexts,

November 29th – December 2nd 2018, United World College in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina

About the workshop

The Education in conflict and Post conflict contexts (ECPCC) program is a professional development program focusing on the United World College Mission; "Education as a force to unite people, nations and cultures for peace and a sustainable future".

The ECPCC Program aims to provide a challenging, transformational educational experience to a diverse cross section of decision makers from education, politics and educational practitioners from Western Balkans. The Program will focus on how we live out the UWC Mission in our Colleges and create a better, more peaceful and more sustainable world, learning from conflict and post-conflict contexts in which we live and work.

Who can apply?

The workshop is designed for 35 teachers and educational practitioners, as well as employees of educational ministries and pedagogical institutes from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Western Balkan region.

Why you should attend?

  • You will be equipped to lead your institution in developing new strategies for responding to the challenge of international mindedness, co-existence and inter dependence into the curricula and the governance of schools
  • You can enable your organisation to be a change agent of society; a leader in its approach to Education in conflict and post conflict contexts
  • You will develop a strategic and practical approach to peace and conflict resolution in education

Programme style

The programme has been designed to be highly intensive and participatory, with the maximum opportunity for dialogue, debate and analysis in seminar style designed to provide delegates with concrete ideas to take back into policy planning and organisations. Plenary presentations are generally limited to between 20 and 30 minutes, leaving ample time for questions and general discussion. Delegates gather regularly in small leadership action groups, each facilitated by a Core Faculty member

who will work with the group throughout the programme. These sessions allow delegates to tackle key issues in greater depth and analyse themes in relation to their own experience. They also prepare delegates for later sessions in the workshop, ensuring that they are in a position to make maximum use of the presentations and discussion that follow.

Language of instruction: English.

Eligible countries: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo*, Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia.

The costs: There is no workshop fee. The organizers will cover the costs of travel, food, accommodation and project materials for participants.
